The promised letter is about to be written, and very pleasant it is to write, too. I hope I have one tomorrow. Maybe, if not it will just be a pity, but perhaps in that case one will come in the afternoon.
I’ve done a Radio Times article but it seems rather dull, it’s all about the calendar, topical for April 8th., As the clocks go forward or back on the 10th. You know the dope, the Julian the Gregarian calendars, the Lost 11 Days and all that. Very informative, but I fear me, rather too dull. However, we can write another, we have time yet. I found the idea in my clockish researches this morning. They brought me piles and piles of books, all sorts of things, great fun. I think it’ll be a feature.
It was nice going away, because it was nice come back. You in your happily quiet mood are a most pleasant person, calm, soothing and mighty comforting. I am lucky.
Seeing Kit’s home makes me quite determined to have an ouse and some chairs and things very soon. Very very soon, it’s a waste of time else. We must get some sort of an income, and then Allez, Hoop ! The Radio Times might develop into a useful annual thing, if they will only buy 20 a year, and if the Post will only use at least one a month, and the B.B.C. do, say, six shows and six stories, and if we can keep some little Carla Becky things on the go we have enough to live modestly, &, and inspiration, and rythm, and peace, and comfort, and satisfaction spirit, in which tow rite snorting plays and a novel a year. Then we’ll be doing things. We must get on, we can, we shall. If only I had some female friend I could think about. Can’t you find this female I’m seeking, someone Henry Heathy, skilled at cooking and keeping a house shining without getting
knocked off her, someone whose wits I respect and not too lanky or skinny ? It’s very difficult. I’ll look in the Humber some day and see if there’s naything there.
Oh, Mr. Blake says as you are going on the Broads he’ll let us have Bullfinch. He says in his letter, “She has a very good turn of speed for her size and she is very popular”. I presume it is the boat of which he speaks, and not yourself. Anyhow, Bullrush or whatever it is is ours from April 16th. To April 23rd. Is that O.K. ?
Tomorrow I shall see you at some time between seven and seven thirty, and we’ll play bridge at your uncles. I shall have arranged about the Saturday afternoon then, and will have all plans. ‘That do ? I must go to catch the post, so believe that I cease writing not for lack of topics, or for lack of will, but to expedite his Majesty’s mails.
