Let Edgar chuckle, I don’t mind & I must write again.  We’ve just got back from our beach walk, when I wrote you the letter with character sketches & Molly’s letter, & your letter was in my locker.  We had a stroll along the cliffs, a fish tea & return to Barracks for Naafi supper.  It’s now 8o/c & eat at 8, meat pies.

When I saw it was a picture I yodelled.  We had bravely left the letters unopened as we washed & took our boots off (gym shoes in barracks after hours, brown ones) & we opened the letters (E had one from his wife, she’s crackers too) & when I saw it was a picture I hesitated, after the first yodel.  Because pictures so often fail to coincide with mental ones.  But this is Splendid.  Its you, gay, attractive in the grandest way & exciting.  And Candy is so beautifully Top Drawer, Her “we are not amused” is grand.  Its lovely because I know how she can suddenly break into a lovely smile, with those dear little front teeth.  Its a great treasure, & I’ll look at it every night & every morning.  I’ll get a frame & put it on the windowsill by my bed.  Thanks so very much.

¶NEVER break it.
19410802cI had for a long friendly letter from Eileen by the same post.  She’s such a dear & promises to look after you.  Let her.  For her sake.  Thank her for the letter.
