 My Dear Dickie :

I do wish you were here, they’re building a railway, points and all. Great fun. Oh, Mussolini- I’ll explain him later, & Crippen. A fat man who imagined that a lot of tack & ostentation would make a kindly domestic people of playful lambs into lions. Because of the Briton’s dislike of facing facts he nearly succeeded, but the failure was historic & great was the fall thereof. But more later. Be intelligent & restrained in your questionings, your “Best whys” & I’ll be intelligent & patient in my answering. That a deal?

While appreciating how full your days are, I do suggest that you should answer my last airgraph. And don’t tax your very busy Mother’s time too much. I get consistently good reports of your growth, development, manners & intelligence. That is good. I also have several photographs of you. But we can’t really know each other by photographs. There is a certain job, rather too complicated to explain, now to be finished here, and then I’ll be around and about Rosemary Cottage all the time & we’ll get to know each other. Your Mummy the nicest of people and Candy, love ‘em all, Granny too. I do.

Grow in grace, love from
