Dearest Heart,
Using a borrowed Corona, which I am groping with. Trying it out, poor dear, on you. I’ll get better as time goes on.
Letters have arrived at the local H/Q, and will be brought down by Don R later. Peter and I are staying in this evening, having some work to do. So maybe no telephoning. Going out is quite a business.
It was grand talking to you last night, and I’m so very glad you see in that picture what I see in it, something which is us. Speed the day when I can look at it with you. It seemed to stand out so much in the shop. Strong and bold brave painting.
Three letters have just come. Two from you and one from Bertha with a plot for a little play in it. Yours were the Saturday one with the wedding group. Many many thanks for that it will be a good thing to have in weird places. The other was written on Monday afternoon, after I had gone. Good sensible letters.
Its very heartening to know that the overdraft is down to £74. In six months we have lived, travelled and saved sixty pounds. At that rate we would be all square in six months more. We have cover up to £150 so you can draw up to that level if you have to, but if you can keep it down so much the better and the lower it is the better for us all. But if you have to go up to the limit, do so. I’ll put it right afterwards. Its a good show, though, having it so low. Bless us all.
Coronas are too small for me to be efficient with them. I’ll lapse into straight talking. Our High Tea is due in 10 minutes. We have breakfast at 7.30 – Porridge, eggs & bacon & toast & marmalade this morning, lunch at 12.o/c & High Tea at five. Its an odd meal, two meats. Yesterday was chop & chips, followed by cold roast beef & salad & bread & jam. One eats plenty. The cook & the steward are Chinese – name – John of course.
This is the old suitcase problem. Six suitcases. All very fascinating & exciting.
Peter & I were at a sea-side resort last night, New Brighton. We had two beers & two phone calls, walked along the front & then saw In Which We Serve. He had not seen it. Its very moving & good, & stands a second visit easily.
It must be horrible to be a good Nazi just now. Disaster whichever way you turn & dislike at home as well.
Did you Jeavons for tea. A nice idea of hers.
Bless you my dearest. Be happy & be full of faith. All my love.
Ever your own
David
