Dearest Heart,

You will get this on Saturday, I hope and within a few hours of reading it we shall be together. I have heard from Auntie Southgate who is very thrilled by our visit, so no hotel with it’s Scott privacy, but a happy time with them. But we shall have the night . . .

A nice busy day, good lectures on dock labour and quay-side organisation, and an afternoon with the Ruston Bucyrus movable diesel crane, Then some violent Squash with J.B.  and Peter,  a bath and a handsome dinner,  a savoury and an apple again, coffee,  half an hour’s quiet reading in the Mess – Spanish Farm – and then back here for the writing of notes  on West African Kroo Boy labour for the Instructor (Officers) a charming man named Major Ritson, and this. No work tonight I think, early to bed. I did Lister last night, and revised and edited the Queen and Mr. Shakespeare, a whale of an evening. I might do something after this,  I might not.

A telegram from Anne Maxwell saying that she’s sorry she can’t meet us in Town which is a pity but a Good Thing. More time together, I think our train is due about half past six, so I’ll go to the Bookstall, to both if there are two, and find you. If I’m not on that train for any reason, I’ll be on the next, Yes, I think they are Portsmouth trains, Liss, anyhow. Very full. You’d better go down on Monday morning, too late if you don’t unless you go very early.  Make it Monday. Heavens above, how blessed it is to have you coming to be with me.

Formal permission to-day from Brigade to “write certain broadcast scripts for the BBC.”  There !

Bye bye, dearest one. Happy days lie ahead of us.
Bless you,
ever. . . .
