Dearest:
Help! I think a steady £60 a week from a West End play would be a good start to our post war reconstruction. One could write a play out here, all ready for “after-wards”. What shall it be a about? Help! I fancy a comedy with a story, some shrewd undercurrent of humanism, a good psychological foundation, some daft – ussish touches. Some music, it helps in a theatre. How about a singer, girl, young & gay. Her teacher (Italian), her husband Stock Broker or farmer, yes Farmer. Norman Edkins who is very fond but jealous when she gets on, a theatre man who gets her a lead in a musical show, some practising – a specially written song, to be a “hit”, the song writer, and what? As I get ideas I’ll write them to you. This is the nearest approach to talking “at” you. Already it is helping. It may all die out, it may not. Any ideas welcome. A sort of Preston Prior background? Or London. Or Italy. One scene in Naples? No. I don’t know.
Bless you. David
