19380518aMy Dear,

A brief letter to cheer, If it does, your breakfast table. Of course, the doctor complimented you on your amazingly quick recovery, which I consider a most admirable feat. Good. You will let me know tomorrow what he said, when I come to lunch with you.

This morning a telegram came from Anne asking me to call on her as soon as I could so John Brown and I went down pronto, and she wants me to come to her rescue with a ten minute script for a show on June 16th., all urgent and quick, which is a nice thought. Its only & couple of guineas, but its nice to be wanted. She also said she liked the Night Freight idea and wants that doing, so we are happily with things in hand. Oh, and she bought that silly Rabbits Tails and Rabbits -Ears story of Franks, too. So that’s all right.

Eileen couldn’t come after all, as usual, poor dear, and she was due at four o’clock and now at five, she is still not here. What a life. I m ready to have a stack-up with her, as they left off my children’s Club retainer, and if it isn’t an accident and is intentional, then they can have their children’s club. Pah. But its all very droll, and not an occasion for wrath.

I hope the week-end stays as it is. I shall have a bad time with her over Friday evening, but it is quite all right actually, she can get her stuff ready. She’ll bleat about “not worth doing it at all” I expect, all put out and hurt. Pschaw. (How do you pronounce that ?)

But the four guineas cut does make the financial situation difficult.

Your Mother is not well, you know. I wish she could get a rest or something. We may have to put the week-end off because of her, you can’t go if she is dicky, it wouldn’t be at all the right thing to do.

No news, I have plenty to do now, what with the Nursery Rhymes thing and the new programme and Night Freight. I hope the Broadcast to Schools people come to life, that will be useful as well.

Cheerio, this isn’t a letter, its just a greetings. Read and rest and take a little walk in the sunshine tomorrow if there is any, and don’t dash about too soon. We can’t have you ill, you know.

Bless you, you are a nice sort of being,

So my love to you,
