Dearest,

Stamps for Christopher, if he wishes them. I have suggested that if he sticks them in a book, if he has no album you might buy him one, and when is his birthday anyhow please, for information and appropriate action, I have suggested that if he collects them and builds up he may want to bequeath them to Richard when he, Christopher is eighteen and Dickie is eight.

Just been strolling in the sunshine around the town, there are two main roads at right angles, both with double avenues of trees,  and between them square blocks of buildings giving many crossroads. I was very clever this morning and spent nothing which is money earned, and I was tempted by a wooden, painted duck on red wheels, a Hen, and a elephant, all about nine inches in gross shape, I also resisted a charming and fascinating oil of a little girl, by Lo Pristo. It is about fifteen inches by eighteen and is head and shoulders, a graceful imp of about ten, with black straight hair and an expression of suppressed mischievousness which grows on you. But it was 2500 lire so I went away. Also some pretty coloured rope soled shoes I wanted for you, but no, I came back and didn’t even buy a pair of braces in the officers’ shop. Economy.

I’m not even buying cigarettes now, I have scrounged Peter and Louis Ulcoq’s free issue as well as my own and get enough and more for nix. Father Gets Careful !

If any of the snaps can be done could you get an enlargement of Dickie preferably with you ?  For framing and hanging up. I think of the pair of you such a lot I’d like to look at you too.

No news, news comes in air letters. But much love,

Ever your. . .
