And although Honor was in our bed you did right while Honor, in defiance of your chat, read Rabelais. Bless you. The letter came this dinner time, & gave me much pleasure, – & a little anxiety that you were overdoing it. You’re very tired. This work is not easy. Be sane, dearest, & ease up in other things. Don’t expend lavish nervous energy as well, don’t fritter your reserve on social matters. Let your mother have the reins, & concentrate on the job. I’d hate a poorly Betty. Take it easy.
This is written in “bed”, or rather in the barrack room while everyone else is in bed. Its 10.15, very late for us. But we kicked all the trace this evening. We’ve swatted every evening & we had exams all the morning. Map reading 9 – 11, & Administration until 1o/c. Four very stiff papers which I enjoyed, liking all exams – but the result I can’t gauge. We shall know. Inquests & grey lists & interviews on Monday !!! Brrr ! So having worked very hard & been screwed up & playing baseball this afternoon & and then having 2 hours of brilliant films on hygiene from 6 – 8, we – Pete Tom & I shot out afterwards & went to Hamilton & drank 2 pints of draft Youngers & then had 2 fish & chip suppers each & home & here we are.
The Base ball was great fun & we had two matches. Very hot. The films were marvellous. One Malaria, & pictures under the microscopes of the mosquitoes, larvae & so on. One on the Louse and & one on the dangers of the fly. Valuable for young officers.
Are my other brogues OK ? Could I have them ? These need returning for repairing I’m afraid. I mustn’t let them get too bad.
How are the gooseberries, & the currants. Any crop. And the lawn. What’s Honor doing all day ? Bless her.
Oh, a lovely parcel & letter from Aunt Ame, 1lb of Tobler chocolate & 20 players.
Tomorrow it’s a battle range, great sport. Trucks to Lanark & then assaults, under fire with targets popping up in front & popping down again. Friday’s a
all day & at 12o/c we march of 10 miles, & then assault a quarry, & trucks home by 6o/c. Then on Saturday and 18 mile cycle ride, do a recce & home & write the report by 1o/c. That’s this week ended ! Letters may get sparse !!
I must to bed. In the fish shop I fetched out your picture & revelled in it. Dear you.
All my love, dearest. & Greetings to Honor. Kisses for Candy. One dutiful & affectionate kiss for Mother-Ann & a bow from the hips for Klaus. Greetings to Mrs Anderton.
